Day 39: Learning from Jo Boaler!

Today's blog post is about my experience at a workshop with Dr. Jo Boaler, an amazing math education professor at Stanford University and author of multiple books (nine, I think) as well as countless other research articles and blog posts. What a great day of learning! It was absolutely an honor to get one of her books signed and to chat with her for a minute. Today's workshop focused on the importance of teaching through the growth mindset, which requires us adults to really rethink a lot of practice and policies around math education. Using inquiry based tasks that are open ended and have a low floor but a high ceiling (meaning that anyone can start and learn from the problem regardless of initial knowledge or ability) can completely transform a math class and program. I'm excited to work with Murchison math teachers to put this great research into practice.
