Real learning is rarely (if ever) pretty and often appears chaotic to the untrained eye. Here's a great example of that! What could be a picture of any classroom at any time is actually the implementation of our first Mathalicious lesson soon to be followed by our first Mathalicious project (as we take part in their pilot study of using project based learning). Freshmen are doing the lesson Domino Effect, which involves pizza toppings and prices (and is also available for free).
Algebra I teachers have committed to fostering student centered classrooms, using estimation daily to improve numerical fluency, while simultaneously incorporating more real world lessons. This is a start to something special.
