Students in environmental systems explored Whirlpool Cave and sinkholes at Karst Preserve, which feed into the Edwards Aquifer. Students learned about the 'recharge zone' where surface water flows back underground into the aquifer. This area is extremely sensitive to pollution and human waste.
Students then learned about ways to protect the aquifer, from city planning to proper waste disposal.
